Situated in Ascot, one of Brisbane’s most high profile and sought-after suburbs, the Centre Court House design was, naturally, focused on the tennis court.
To achieve this and so blurred the border between inside and out by maximising the use of natural materials and light.
Challenge
This project bought many challenges with some previous renovation works already being completed it was imperative the new works seamlessly integrated with the original Queenslander design intent.
The oversized stair void and feature timber work meant that structural elements needed to be cleverly hidden within floor and ceiling spaces. Slender timber and steel columns and a thin roof profile further restricted the space available for structural bracing.
Solutions
Structural members were designed using detailed 3D analysis models which allowed member sizes to be reduced to a minimum and design loads refined to ensure the structure was working to its full potential.
Bracing of the new works was achieved by pinning bracing elements and framing back to more substantial structural components like off form concrete and block walls.
This project demonstrated our strong collaboration with Refresh Design as the Architect and the resounding success of an iterative design process that assists the Architect to achieve the Client’s desired result.
NGS were able to develop a structure that achieved all of our architectural requirements and was a straight forward assembly for the builder.
